UK Government Plans to Offer Huge Tax Concessions to Online Gambling Companies.

But for some the deal might be enough of a sweetener to bring them back to the UK and benefit from greater regulation and industry support.

. According to figures from the Gambling Commission, online gambling earned [pounds sterling]20.1 billion between April 2011 and March 2012 and online gambling is growing at a rate of 15% annually throughout the EU.

LONDON, March 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ –

After imposing taxes forcing online gambling firms overseas the UK government is now planning to lure them back with tax breaks

However, according to recent reports the Treasury could be ready to slash this tax to encourage online gambling companies, such as JackpotCity Casino, back into the UK. In an attempt to deal with tax avoidance the UK government is going to actively encourage lucrative online gambling companies back into the UK with generous tax breaks.

By moving back under the control of the UK Gambling Commission, consumers new to online gaming will feel more inclined to give it a try, knowing it is thoroughly and tightly controlled and regulated by the Gambling Commission, which can bring charges against companies in breach of the rules.

A reduction of 5% would save the 20 biggest offshore gaming companies [pounds sterling]100 million in tax every year. However, many online gaming companies that currently work out of tax havens will be loath to pay the tax even at a reduced rate of 10%. Although the percentage at which the government will reduce the tax is not yet known, the Mail on Sunday reports that it could be as much as a third; the current tax system has lost [pounds sterling]2.1 billion in revenue over the past seven years.

Seven years ago the vast majority of UK online gambling companies moved their operations abroad to tax havens such as Malta, Gibraltar and the Channel Islands to avoid a 15% tax imposed on all online gambling services in the UK.

Zillow Closes Trulia Acquisition, Cuts 350 Positions

This, Zillow says, was “due primarily to redundancy in the combined company’s sales and administrative organizations.” 280 of these jobs have already been eliminated and another 70 employees will be laid off by the end of the second quarter. For the most part, that’s how Zillow has approached most of its acquisitions. When Zillow first announced its intentions to take over Trulia, the stock price still valued the transaction at $3.5 billion.

As is often the case when two very similar companies merge, Zillow and Trulia laid off 350 employees in San Francisco and Bellevue, Wash. Zillow Closes Trulia Acquisition, Cuts 350 Positions | TechCrunch

As expected, Zillow today closed the acquisition of its competitor Trulia in a stock-for-stock transaction. HotPads and StreetEasy, for example, are still getting regular updates, and even though they’ve been integrated into Zillow’s organization, you can barely even find Zillow’s own branding on those sites.

. The total price of the acquisition was $2.5 billion. The combined Zillow/Trulia will now operate under the name “Zillow Group” and start trading on Nasdaq tomorrow.

Zillow says that it plans to offer a shared services and marketing platform for advertisers later this year. Together, Zillow and Trulia now have about 2,000 employees.

Trulia’s CEO Paul Levine will now be Trulia’s president and Peter Flint, Trulia’s co-founder and former CEO, is joining Zillow’s board of directors. That doesn’t come as a major surprise. All of them have already been notified. For the time being, though, it looks like both Zillow and Trulia will mostly continue to operate as before… Read more

Protests Erupt in Japan Against Nuclear Power

I now farm with a Geiger counter in one hand, my tools in the other. the demonstration was remarkable not because of its size, but because it happened at all in a country that so values conformity and order,” said The New York Times today.

The people of Tokyo erupted in a mass protest today against the way the government and its prime minister handled the recent nuclear disaster. Several people in the streets had never protested anything in their lives before today. The question is, will Japan’s government hear its people and make a change after such devastation, or will the government play yet another cruel game of Russian roulette and wait for the next disaster to strike?

Demonstrations like this show just how much frustration the people of Japan are harboring towards their government since they went ahead with installation of the nuclear plants “despite the country’s history of devastating earthquakes and a deep public distrust of the nuclear industry.”

First-time protester Hiromasa Fujimoto, a rice and vegetable farmer, said, “I want to tell people that I’m just so worried about the soil, about the water… Two people at the demonstration spoke heartfelt pleas that they wanted the world and their leaders to hear:

The prime minister would do well in not ignoring the public outcry for alternative energy sources. The upbeat crowd swelled to “about 20,000 people according to organizers’ estimates…

“I’m here for my children,” said Aki Ishii, who brought her 3-year-old daughter wearing a sign that said, “Please let me play outside again.” She added, “We just want our old life back, where the water is safe and the air is clean.”

Antinuclear Protests in Tokyo, April 2011The reports of people in Japan taking to the streets and making their desires known is not anything to sneeze at. Public anger bubbled over after finding out the damage and amount of radioactive contamination of surrounding areas were much worse than originally reported.. It’s insane.”

Participants could be seen pounding on large metal drums painted with radioactive warning signs, and others were carrying flowers in the streets of several cities throughout Japan this morning… Read more

A spider fight in a local town ended in tragedy with one man killed and another wounded after an argument over a disputed bet.The suspect armed with a hand gun fired point blank at the head of his opponent killing him instantly and wounded another as he fled the scene of the crime.

“2 minors killed over spider-fighting bet”

Heated arguments from hot heads sometimes occur because some boy felt he was cheated or welsh on a bet. they are feed with insects but we avoid feeding them before a fight to make them more aggressive

“Man killed, one hurt over spider-fighting”

Over an unpaid 5 peso bet (10 cents) a 15 year old stab to death a 13 year old boy. A bill or two missing from a parent’s wallet. :))

We stabled them in empty matchboxes or in a specially constructed box which usually have separate cells to house several spiders. Some petty larceny was sometimes resorted to acquire the necessary stake money. Upon learning of his son’s death, the father sought out his son’s killer and hacked him to death with a jungle bolo.. Although it never deteriorated to such tragic outcome as the news stories below:

Fights would be arrange after school or even during school hours if we could manage to play hooky. The fights were stage in hidden and out of the way places far from parental eyes.Gambling was always involve and most of our lunch money went into it. Occasionally we were found out because of a tattletale schoolmate (usually a girl). Fistfights were not uncommon and going home with a bruised eye and soiled or torn school uniform resulted in the discovery of our illicit activities and the accompanying consequences… Read more

TheSportsGeek.com Adds a Live Sports Betting Odds Feed

The difference between -105 and -115 can equal

thousands of dollars in a sports bettor’s pocket over the course of a

season.” He added “You would be surprised at how much the odds can vary

from sportsbook to sportsbook for some events”.

Sports enthusiasts can visit the Live Odds page and compare odds for the

different games being played on that day. Users can then

select whether they would like to view the spread odds, money line or

even the odds listed for the game total. If he or she were to win 55% of their wagers at -110 odds they

would profit $5,050. This live feed will

display the betting odds for the major North American sport leagues

across 4 of the most popular sportsbooks.

TheSportsGeek.com spokesperson Kevin McClelland talked about the

importance of comparing betting odds “As we strive to be a leader in

sports betting education we thought it was very important to incorporate

a live betting odds feed on our website. Comparing the different odds

offered on a sporting event is extremely important if you want a chance

at ‘beating the bookies’. -0-

About TheSportsGeek.com

McClelland added “To give you an example of how much money some bettors

are leaving on the table by not using a live odds feed to compare odds we

will take a look at someone making 1000 $100 bets over the course of the

year. There are tabs along the top of

the feed that allows users to choose between NHL, NBA, MLB, and NCAAB.

While NCAAF and NFL odds are to be added in the Fall.

With more analytics and statistics available online the sports betting

industry has come a long way with what is offered out there.

Although sportsbooks rely on each other for setting their odds they will

ultimately have their own odds listed depending on what type of action

they are receiving. It is

recommended that sports fans looking to bet on the events use these tools

to help increase your edge. If they are receiving a lot of money bet on one side

of a game the odds will reflect that as they move the odds.

TheSportsGeek.com started off as an educational sports betting website

that taught beginners how to bet on different sporting events or leagues

in 2008. Two types of odds are displayed,

with American Odds set as the default and Decimal Odds also listed.

TORONTO, CANADA, Apr 12 (Marketwired) –

Sports betting website TheSportsGeek.com has made another addition to

their website by adding a live betting odds feed. It has since grown to become one of the more popular sports

betting websites offering advanced betting strategies, daily tips and

picks in their blog, reviews of sports betting websites, and of course

sports betting tools including their new live odds feed.

© 2013 Marketwire L.P. A difference

of $2,200 in profits over the year.”

Along with the new live odds feed, TheSportsGeek.com has recently added a

sports betting calculator that allows users to convert American Odds into

Decimal Odds or Fractional Odds, and a No-Vig Calculator that shows

bettors what the true odds of each wager would be without the sportsbooks

commission calculated into the betting lines. If they used a live odds feed to compare odds and

placed those wagers at -105 odds they would profit $7,250. All rights reserved.

CNN.com – Online casinos hit advertising jackpot

By Scarlet Pruitt

The casino category has become significant enough that the researcher said that it is adding it to its monthly syndicated user reports.

Online casinos, once limited to gaming and entertainment sites, are now splashing their services across a host of mainstream sites, making them the fifth-largest industry in terms of online advertising, Jupiter said. According to Jupiter, gambling sites had 13.6 million unique visitors in December of 2001, spending a total of 274 million minutes on the sites. According to Jupiter, 3.9 million users are visiting online gambling sites from work, compared to the 10.7 million home gamblers.

And these ads seem to be working. The researcher, which ranks the online ad success of 138 industry segments, noted that casinos had moved up from the eleventh largest advertiser in December of 2000, with 911 million ad viewings, to its current fifth-place spot in December of 2001 with 2.5 billion viewings.

Some of the most popular online gambling sites include Kcasino.com and Webstakes.com, both of which had 2.3 million unique visitors in December of 2001. These sites were trailed by Aceshigh.com, with 2.1 million visitors during the same period, and Luckynugget.com, with 1.7 million.

So, who are these online gamblers? According to the researcher, middle-aged, lower-income, and childless users are leading the traffic trail to online casinos.

Back in December of 2000, casino ads were mostly limited to gaming sites, but a year later 39 percent of casino ads appeared on general interest portal sites, Jupiter reported.

(IDG) — Las Vegas beware: Online gambling sites are growing in popularity and visibility, making them a winning force in the online advertising market, according to a report released Wednesday by Jupiter Media Metrix Inc.

Gambling sites’ online blitz pits them against mainstream advertisers such as retailers and financial advertisers in the battle for mindshare, Jupiter said.

The top sites according to average time spent per users were Bingocanada.com, at an average 27 minutes per user in December of 2001, and Webstakes.com, with an average 23.9 minutes per user, Jupiter said.

Men and women between the ages of 25 and 54 are more likely to visit the sites, Jupiter said, and 55 percent of online gamblers do not have children. Visitors averaged 20.2 minutes per month in the virtual casinos, compared to the average 9.8 minutes per month users spent on health information sites, and 35.8 minutes a month users spent on travel sites.. Meanwhile, 13 percent of online gamblers have household incomes less than $25,000. Online gamblers aren’t just placing their bets from home… Read more
